Abstract

While women in France, like men, wrote the first pages of aviation [history], their attaining the status of a military pilot was a long quest throughout the twentieth century, punctuated by two world wars and the decolonization wars, before the doors of the flight school were opened for them in 1996. Far from being purely national, this adventure must be understood and read as the mirror of other experiences such as those experienced in Great Britain, the USA and the former USSR.
