Carla Celesia di Vegliasco (1868-1939) studied painting under the guidance of Filippo Carcano. She participated in various exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including the tenth Venice Biennale in 1912 where she exhibited the work Water and Sun. In 1911 she married Gino Lavelli De Capitani. Carla Celesia was always actively involved in the movement of female emancipation. In 1914, she was elected president of the newly founded Federazione artistica femminile italiana the (Italian Women's Artistic Federation). The purpose of the Federation was "to sponsor the realization and dissemination of exhibitions dedicated to female creativity". During the First World War, she also was a supporter of the need for women's participation in war operations. The Monument to the Fallen of the First World War in Collesalvetti, built in 1925, was designed by her. In 1942, her husband edited the posthumous publication of her Thoughts, Writings, Speeches and Works. It is alleged that Carla Celesia di Vegliasco collaborated with the fascist regime.
