Abstract | Gisèle Guillemot (1922-2013) grew up in a working class town in Normandy. When the Germans invaded Normandy, she joined the Résistance. She worked as a liaison agent under the pseudonym “Annick,” until she was arrested by the Gestapo in 1943 along with other members of her network. She was sentenced to death and deported to Ravensbrück because German law forbade shooting women. Guillemot was liberated from Mauthausen in 1945 by the Red Cross. She was made a Commander of the Légion d’honneur and received the medal of the Resistance. Until her death, Guillemot was a tireless witness to the Nazi concentration camps, on television and in schools. |
