Abstract

Chaos and uncertainty surrounded the Allied liberation of France from town to town. Residents of Nanteuil celebrate the news of their local surrender in August 1944, but a newly-arrived German officer seeks to re-occupy the town. Local French Resistance fighters appear useless to the renewed war.
