Abstract | This article seeks to determine which fate awaits the memory “industry.” In thinking about this topic, the author argues that however much memory studies has established itself as a thriving field in academia, its current status eventually will be diminished by major changes afoot in the world today. He contends that there are numerous signs that the recent memory boom may have peaked and may soon be abating. He aims to show that the factors that initially helped elevate memory to unprecedented prominence have begun to fade in the last several years and will likely continue to do so. |
