Abstract | This chapter tells the stories of seven of the hundreds of thousands of Chinese, Korean, Filipino, Malaysian, Indonesian, and Dutch women and girls who were forcibly recruited by the Japanese Imperial Army to service the vast network of military brothels known as "comfort stations." The chapter outlines the history of the comfort system, as well as its eventual reckoning in court, traces the stories of the women who were forced into sexual slavery as part of this system, and connects the system with current Japanese politics. |
