Abstract | Catherine Jestin (1920-2004), née Townshend, was born in London. She attended Mayortorne Manor, the University of Paris (Sorbonne), and the Munich University. She served for six years during World War II as a staff car driver during the Blitz, a member of the F.A.N.Y., and then a Junior Commander (Captain) in the War Office (M.I. 19). She married the American soldier H.B. Jestin in London and came to the U.S. as a war bride in 1946. After raising her three children, she was employed by the Farmington Public Library and then by Wilmarth S. Lewis at the Lewis Walpole Library, where she was appointed Librarian by Yale University. This autobiography tells her story. |
